Restoration

Thanks to a group of dedicated volunteers--the Friends of Cabot Head--the lighthouse dome and keeper's quarters have been restored. Volunteer lightkeepers live in the lightkeeper's house during the summer season, carrying on the restoration work and general upkeep of the property while a lighthouse keeper's assistant takes up residence in the lighthouse.

A Visitor's Centre is open to the public, consisting of three rooms. The Natural History Room, sponsored by FON, showcases the local flora and fauna. The room sponsored by Lindsay Township features local logging and fishing artifacts. The Lindsay Historical Society has sponsored a room which offers a glimpse into the life of a Cabot Head lightkeeper over the past century.

The Friends' main objective is to preserve Cabot Head as an Environment Conservation area. They have also added new nature trails throughout the area. Over 120 different kinds of birds, several kinds of snakes and unique flora and fauna make the Cabot Head and Wingfield Basin Nature Reserve their home.

Note: Visitors to the Wingfield Basin Nature Reserve are not allowed during migration times.
