Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre - Southampton
The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is undergoing an extensive expansion and restoration. This 1878 Brick schoolhouse structure is all that remains of the original museum. Central to the building’s design are huge glass walls that allow a view from Victoria Street through the building to Fairy Lake. There are three levels to the building and it is fully accessible. There will be 8,000 square feet of exhibit space as well as three environmentally controlled zones to ensure the museum’s collection of heritage assets will be preserved.
The main level will feature a 120-seat theatre, administration and gift shop. The southern section will house the first exhibit, which will feature the geological and archaeological history of Bruce County. This exhibit space is open and looks down to the lower level.
July 1st 2005 will be the 50th anniversary of the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
